One part of our summer program is our reading club--students read every day. This year we've spent time in focused study on the importance of reading aloud to all ages of children--specifically the information presented by Jim Trelease in
The Read Aloud Handbook. The children (pk-5th) and a parent are challenged to read together (parent reading aloud) for at least 20 minutes every day. We provide a good selection of Spanish and English chapter books in that age range (using Trelease's book lists) for families to check out. And here they are....reading in their homes with their kiddos. There isn't much that makes my heart happier to see than this! Good job, Mamas! Good job, kiddos!
